Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga visited Lowena Racheal Nkya, the senior six juststudent of Nalya Lugazi secondary school and her mother who are both admitted at Mulago National referral Hospitalafter they were shot at during KCCA operations late last month.

“I have been to Mulago Hospital’s ward 7 to check on Lowena Rachael Nkya, the S.6 student of Nalya Lugazi Mixed Sch, who was shot in the mouth by a KCCA/ Police squad on 11th March,” Kadaga wrote in a statement posted on her official social media platforms on Friday 20 March.

She expressed disappoinent that both the KCCA line Ministry a d the police leadership had not taken responsibility for the incident  despite a parliamentary directive that they should visit the Victims and also help settle their hospital bills.

“I am so hurt. Neither the Minister nor police leadership have ever checked on her! And this is despite a Parliament command that they do so & foot the medical & upkeep expenses!
This lack of empathy is disturbing,” Kadaga wrote in utter disbelief.

Nkya, along with her  mother who was accompanying her to school, on that day, was shot and lost seven teeth and cannot eat food. She gets nourishment only through fluids.

The Hospital Director, Dr Baterana Byarugaba, and Dr Francis Lakor, the Oral & Maxillo Facial consultant surgeon, have assured the Speaker that they are doing their best efforts to restore the health of the two patients.

Kadaga,in her individual capacity gave the two patients shillings one million to help pay medical bills and also for upkeep.
